MP backs break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been consulting with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of small companies in Cornwall presently earn money from utilized cooking oil".

He added: "In order to be able to get this kind of industry going it does need just a little bit of lift which can be found in the kind of tax inescapable."

Biodiesel is a blend of conventional diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
